CHM 100: Board notes from 2/18/09
Here are today’s CHM 100 notes. These notes discuss Dalton’ atomic theory, the structure of the atom, and introduce the periodic table.
CHM 111: Board notes from 2/18/09
Here are the notes from today’s CHM 111 class. Since I didn’t get a chance to post them earlier, I’ve also included the notes from Monday’s class. These notes cover the colligative properties of solutions and kinetics of chemical reactions.
Missed tests / Test make-ups
CHM 100 and CHM 111 students:
If you missed Wednesday’s test and would like to take a make-up test, please come by my office (room 5416-C) tomorrow (2/13/09) between 9:30 AM and 10:45 AM. You will need about an hour to complete the test.
If you missed the test and have not come to take a make-up by 10:45 AM, your final exam will substitute for this missed test and any other missed tests will be given a zero grade.
CHM 110 students:
If you missed Thursday’s test and would like to take a make-up test, please come by my office (room 5416-C) tomorrow (2/13/09) between 9:30 AM and 10:45 AM. You will need about an hour to complete the test.

CHM 110: Board notes for 2/10/09
Here are today’s CHM 110 notes. These notes cover the naming of hydrates, binary molecular compounds, and acids.
Here are some flowcharts which might help you study nomenclature. These charts cover everything but hydrates:
Writing formulas from names
- [Flowchart: Writing Ionic Formulas]
- [Flowchart: Writing Binary Molecular Formulas]
- [Flowchart: Writing Acid Formulas]
Writing names from formulas
- [Flowchart: Naming Ionic Compounds]
- [Flowchart: Naming Binary Molecular Compounds]
- [Flowchart: Naming Acids]
Here are the common polyatomic ions and Greek prefixes
CHM 111: Board notes from 2/9/09
Here are the notes from Monday’s CHM 111 class. These notes introduce the colligative properties.
CHM 100: Board notes for 2/9/09
Here are today’s CHM 100 notes. These notes discuss the classification of matter and the law of conservation of mass.
Updated lab schedules!
Due to the snow days and a few other calendar changes, I’ve updated the lab schedules for CHM 100 (both sections), CHM 110, and CHM 111.
Please look at the new schedules and make any changes necessary to your personal calendars.
CHM 110: Board notes for 2/5/09
Here are today’s CHM 110 notes. These notes cover naming and writing formulas for simple ionic compounds.
Thursday delay
From the front page of [Tech’s web site]:
This means that the school does not open until 10:00 AM. This delay does not affect the CHM 110 class on Thursday. We will meet as usual at 11:00 AM for class and 2:30 PM for lab.
What a week we’ve had so far!
