Summer CHM 110 and 111 students: Grades posted!

I have posted final grades for CHM 110 (Summer 10 week) and CHM 111 (Summer 5 week).  You may get your grades from these places:

  1. [Desire2Learn].  You can see individual test grades and your numeric average on Desire2Learn (D2L), as well as your latter grade.  Grades are available on D2L now. If you would like a copy of all of your lecture grades from the course as well as your numeric average, print from D2L now.  You will only have access to this semester’s grades on D2L for one more week – whether or not you are attending classes next term.
  2. [WebAdvisor].  Webadvisor is your link to official FDTC data.  The grade on Webadvisor is your official grade, and will be the one recorded on your transcript.  WebAdvisor will only show your final letter grade, not your individual assignment grades or numeric average.  Grades will be available on WebAdvisor on Monday afternoon.

Please don’t call to ask about your grades, because I’m not allowed to discuss grades over the telephone!  You may e-mail me via Desire2Learn (or using your official FDTC e-mail address) to ask about your grades.

A NOTE ON “EXTRA CREDIT”

Most of your regular tests this semester had more than 100 points on them.  These points were “extra credit”, as was the fact that your final exam could replace your lowest test score.  In lab, your lowest report grade was also dropped.  In other words, your reported grade in D2L already includes all the “extra credit” you will receive in this course.  Any requests for additional “extra credit” will be ignored.

A request for your grade to be changed to a higher grade than the one you earned may be considered an act of academic dishonesty and may be forwarded to college authorities for disciplinary action.

A NOTE TO CHM 110 STUDENTS PLANNING TO TAKE CHM 111

If you’re a CHM 110 student who is planning on taking CHM 111 in the fall, don’t sell your textbook or lab manual!  We will be using the same materials for CHM 111 as we did for CHM 110.

Weather Delay for FDTC, Thursday 1/18/18

From the FDTC web site:

Alert: Because of the inclement weather, all classes for FDTC’s Evening College are cancelled Wednesday, January 16, 2018. All 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. classes on all of the campuses of FDTC are cancelled Thursday, January 18, 2018. Faculty and staff report at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Here’s how this affects CHM 110 and CHM 111 for Thursday:

  • CHM 110-03:  Since classes resume before it starts, the 11:00 AM CHM 110-03 lecture class will meet as scheduled.
  • CHM 111-01:  The 9:30 AM lecture class is cancelled.  The 2:30 PM lab, though, is not cancelled and will meet as scheduled.

Any questions?  Ask here or send me an e-mail!

Out sick again today (01/10/18)

Since I am still running a high fever and have other flu-like symptoms, I will be unable to attend class on Wednesday 01/10/18.  If you are in either my CHM 110 section 1 or section 2 class, please check your FDTC student e-mail account for an important message.

If you have any questions, you may send me an e-mail at charles.taylor@fdtc.edu or leave a comment here.

Out sick today (01/09/2018)

I’m out sick today.  If you’re in my CHM 111-01 class or my CHM 110-03 class, check your FDTC student e-mail account for a message.

If you have any questions, you may send me an e-mail at charles.taylor@fdtc.edu or leave a comment here.

Weather Delay for FDTC, Monday 1/8/18

From the official FDTC web page:

Alert: All 8 AM and 9:30 AM classes are cancelled Monday, January 8, 2018 for all Florence-Darlington Technical College campuses. Students report to all other classes at the normal scheduled time. Faculty and staff should report at 10 AM.

This affects one of the Monday morning CHM classes: CHM 110 section 1. Section 1 has two lecture meetings per week like most of the CHM 110 courses, but for this section both lecture meetings are on Monday – one at 9:30 AM and one at 11:00 AM. For Monday 1/8/18, the 9:30 AM lecture is cancelled, but the 11:00 AM lecture will meet as scheduled. If you’re in CHM 110 section 1, plan to be in class at 11:00 AM.

Other sections of CHM 110 that have Monday meetings (section 2 lecture in the afternoon, and section 3 lab at 11:00 AM) will meet as scheduled.

Test 4 Available

Graded copies of CHM 110 Test 4 for sections 1 and 2 and for CHM 111 are now available on my office door (5416-G).  You may pick up your test anytime the school is open; you don’t have to come during my office hour as I don’t need to be in the office for you to get your test. The tests will be available on the door until your class has its final exam.

Grades for this test have been posted in D2L.  No grades have been “dropped” at this point (attendance, lab, or test) in the gradebook.  The drops described in the syllabus will happen after I’ve entered the last grade for each grade category … which means it’ll happen when I’ve entered your final exam grade.  What that means is that your actual grade at the moment may be a little higher than what D2L currently shows, as long as you haven’t missed a lab experiment and a test.

For CHM 110 section 3, your graded tests will be available on Monday.  I will update this post and send emails to your official FDTC e-mail accounts when the tests are available.
