Room changes! (updated)

CHM 100-01, CHM 110 (01 and 02), and CHM 111 (01 and 02) lectures have all been moved from room 5401 to room 5404.

The lab room has not been changed; all the sections above will still meet in room 5422 for lab.

Update: As of 1:30 PM on 1/13/10, I still don’t know what room CHM 100-01 will meet in next Wednesday (1/20/10).  The 100-01 lab will still meet in 5422 at 8:00 AM on Tuesday 1/19/10 as scheduled.  I will post another update when I know more about the CHM 100-01 room assignments.

Update 2:  Please see [this new post] for the most current info.

Grades posted!

I have posted final grades for CHM 100, CHM 110, and CHM 111.  You may get your grades from these places:

  1. [Desire2Learn].  You can see individual test grades and your final exam grade on Desire2Learn, as well as your latter grade.
  2. [WebAdvisor].  Webadvisor is your link to official FDTC data.  This is your official grade;  WebAdvisor will only show your final letter grade, not your individual grades or numeric average.

If you have any questions about your grade or if you wish to view your final (you don’t get to keep a copy of the final, sorry!), you may come by the office before Christmas break.  Please don’t call to ask about your grades, because I’m not allowed to discuss grades over the telephone!  You may e-mail me in Desire2Learn to ask about your grades, since Desire2Learn’s e-mail is a private messaging system which requires a password to log in.

Enjoy your winter break!

Enjoy your winter break!

I hope you enjoyed chemistry this term, and I hope you now have some time to relax and enjoy your holiday.

Note: Your grades have been entered into the WebAdvisor system. It’s possible (this happened a few semesters ago) that they may not show up in WebAdvisor until Monday.  Grades are already visible in Desire2Learn, though.  If you have any trouble seeing your grades in Desire2Learn, let me know.

Final exam dates and other upcoming tests

[This notice will remain at the top of the page until the end of the term.  Scroll down to see the latest site content!]

CHM 110 FINAL EXAM:  The CHM 110 final will be given on Monday, December 7, at 11:00 AM.  The exam will be in room 5401 – same room as you normally go to for lecture, and will last two hours.

CHM 100 FINAL EXAM:  The CHM 100 final will be given on Wednesday, December 9, at 9:30 AM.  The exam will be in room 5401 – same room as you normally go to for lecture, and will last two hours.

CHM 100: Lab test reminder

Just a reminder for CHM 100 students:  We’ll be having our first lab exam next week (10/6 for section 1, 10/8 for section 2).  If you have not done so already, please have a look at the [study guide for the first lab test] to help you prepare.

Note for those with a lab absence:  You are responsible for knowing what went on in each experiment whether you were there or not, so if you missed an experiment, you should contact your lab partner(s) and find out what you missed – and you should also read the entire experiment in the book several times to make sure you understand what the experiment was about.

Any questions?  Ask here, or ask me via e-mail or in person.

CHM 110: Experiment 3B shared data (Section 2: Wednesday lab)

Here’s the shared data from CHM 110 Experiment 3B. These are the ratios of mass product / mass barium chloride dihydrate that you need to complete the table on page 74 and answer the questions on pages 75 and 76.  This is data for the Wednesday lab section (section 2)!

Ratio of (mass product / mass BaCl2.2H2O):

  • 0.8495
  • 0.8519
  • 0.8520
  • 0.8510
  • 0.8503

The write-up for Experiment 3B is due at our next lab meeting. If you have any questions about either the calculations or the rest of the write-up, either come by my office or ask here in comments.  We will discuss the calculations for this lab in Tuesday’s class.

I recommend that you use your TI-83 calculator or a spreadsheet to find the standard deviation – you don’t have to calculate it by hand.

Out 9/28/09

If you’re reading this, you probably already know that I was out sick on 9/28/09 (Monday).  Here’s how that will affect your chemistry classes:

CHM 100 (all sections):  Turn in the quiz that was due today on Wednesday (9/30).  Lab will meet as scheduled tomorrow, and lecture will meet as scheduled on Wednesday.

CHM 110 – 01:  Monday’s lab is cancelled.  We will do Experiment 4C next week as scheduled.

CHM 110-02:  Wednesday’s lab (Experiment 3B) will meet as scheduled.

CHM 100 and CHM 110: Test #1 grades

I have finished grading CHM 100 Test #1, and have posted the grades on Desire2Learn.  You may see your grades there now, or wait until Wednesday when I return the papers in class.

Update: 9/14/09 11:20 PM: I have finished grading CHM 110 Test #1, and have posted the grades on Desire2Learn.  You may see your grades there now, or wait until Wednesday when I return the papers in class.
