CHM 100 Announcement: Test #1, your quiz grades, and the lab syllabus

Test 1

Test 1, covering the first three chapters of your book, will be given on Tuesday, June 9th.  If you’ve not done so already, print the [study guides] for the first three chapters and start working on the “practice” problems mentioned at the bottom of each guide.  If you have any questions about the problems from the study guides, you’re welcome to ask them in the comments section of this post.

Quiz grades

You can see your quiz (and all other lecture) grades by logging in to [Desire2Learn]before I pass them back to you in class.  Quiz 1 grades, for example, have already been posted.

Lab syllabus

I’ve posted an updated lab syllabus [here].

CHM 100: Board notes for 5/28/09

Here are today’s CHM 100 notes.  These notes cover scientific notation, the kinetic picture of matter, phases and phase changes, chemical/physical properties and changes, mixtures/pure substances, and conservation of mass.  (Conservation of mass will be discussed in the next class period, but I pit it here so all the chapter three stuff would be in one place.)

CHM 100: Board notes for 5/21/09

Here are the notes for today’s CHM 100 class.  These notes start with density – its units and how to measure it.

The notes also cover dimensional analysis (aka the “drag-and-drop” method) and its use for metric unit conversions – along with example problems.

The last page introduces the definitions of accuracy and precision for measured numbers.
