A note on “extra credit”: Most of your regular tests this semester had more than 100 points on them. These points were “extra credit”, as was the fact that your final exam could replace your lowest test score. In lab, your lowest report grade was also dropped. In other words, your reported grade in D2L already includes all the “extra credit” you will receive in this course. Any requests for additional “extra credit” will be ignored.
CHM 110 Test 3 grades available
Grades for CHM 110 Test 3 (all sections) have been posted on D2L. You’ll get your graded papers back at our next class meeting.
Spring Break!
Spring Break is finally here (at least for those of you who don’t have Friday classes). Enjoy the break! Here are a few things you should know before you return from break.
CHM 110: Check D2L for your second test grade, as well as your current course average. I’ve posted test grades for all sections. You will probably notice that when you get your paper back after the break, the grade recorded on D2L (and the one that will be used to calculate your average) is three points higher than the one written on the paper. That’s because one version of the test had a three-point question involving a Greek prefix that wasn’t one of the basic few you learn on grade school, and I’d forgotten to put a prefix chart on the back of the test – so I added three points to the test grade because of that.
CHM 111: Remember that the report for Experiment 12A is due on Tuesday 3/20. Expect a test on Chapters 14 and 15 on either 3/27 or 3/29.
CHM 110: Shared data for Experiment 3B (Section 1, Thursday)
Here’s the shared data from CHM 110 Experiment 3B. These are the ratios of mass product / mass barium chloride dihydrate that you need to complete the table on page 74 and answer the questions on pages 75 and 76. This is data for the Thursday lab section (section 1)!
Ratio of (mass product / mass BaCl2.2H2O):
- 0.85280
- 0.85134
- 0.85239
- 0.85200
- 0.85526
The write-up for Experiment 3B (pages 71-76) is due at our next lab meeting. If you have any questions about either the calculations or the rest of the write-up, either come by my office or ask here in comments.
Here’s a handout that describes the calculation procedure for this experiment: (It’s the same one that was on your desk.)

I recommend that you use your TI-83 calculator or a spreadsheet to find the standard deviation the lab manual asks you to calculate.
CHM 110: Shared data for Experiment 3B (Section 2, Wednesday)
Here’s the shared data from CHM 110 Experiment 3B. These are the ratios of mass product / mass barium chloride dihydrate that you need to complete the table on page 74 and answer the questions on pages 75 and 76. This is data for the Wednesday lab section (section 2)!
Ratio of (mass product / mass BaCl2.2H2O):
- 0.85218
- 0.85065

Here’s the shared data from CHM 110 Experiment 3B. These are the ratios of mass product / mass barium chloride dihydrate that you need to complete the table on page 74 and answer the questions on pages 75 and 76. This is data for the Monday lab section (section 3)!
Ratio of (mass product / mass BaCl2.2H2O):
- 0.84969

Here’s a handout that describes the calculation procedure for this experiment: (It’s the same one that was on your desk when you came in to the lab. I corrected a copy/paste error on the last page – where the handout had “208.23 g BaO”, it should have had “153.33 g BaO”. None of the other numbers changed.)
